Phoenix is firing on all cylinders early. Behind Satou Sabally’s 27-point explosion and Alyssa Thomas’ all-around brilliance, the Mercury cruised past Seattle in their opener. They look like a team on a mission, and that mission is to reassert themselves as contenders in the West.
Sabally’s size and mobility were too much for Seattle to handle, and now she gets to go against a Sparks defense that just allowed 89 points to Minnesota. Meanwhile, Thomas remains a problem on both ends — pushing pace, switching on defense, and setting teammates up for easy looks.

Los Angeles is 1-1, but let’s not get carried away — both their games have exposed defensive cracks. Dearica Hamby continues to be a two-way beast (20 PTS, 10 REB last game), and Azurá Stevens finally broke out with 21 points on 4-of-7 from deep.
