Styles Prescod is a 6’6” 280-pound offensive tackle out of Hamilton Southeastern High School, in Fishers, Indiana. He is a 2024 graduate and has been receiving lots of interest from top universities.
He received an offer from the University of Iowa on October 1, 2022. Seeing as Prescod is only in his junior year of high school and already has significant recognition, it is likely that he will continue to see more schools like the Hawkeyes sending offers his way as he progresses through his junior season and eventually into his senior year.
Rivals currently has Prescod ranked as a three-star recruit, as well as the number 10 overall player in the state of Indiana. With that said, he is not currently ranked in ESPN’s Top 300 prospects in the class of 2024, but that could very easily change as he continues to grow and develop throughout his last two seasons in high school. Joining a list of legendary football players who played for the Iowa Hawkeyes should be tempting.

Prescod’s Strengths
Through this point of his career, there is one thing that stands out with Styles Prescod, and that is his physicality. Standing 6’6” and weighing in at 280 pounds, clearly, size is not his issue. With that said, it would be very easy for a high school player with his size to dominate the opposition.
While his size is a contributor to his success thus far, it is not what stands out when watching him play. Prescod is fast, aggressive, and shows no mercy to his opponents after the ball is snapped.
In nearly every play, he is seen taking his opponent to the ground, putting his tremendous size, strength, and speed on full display. Regardless of the play, Styles Prescod is aggressive and quick off the line, making it that much more difficult for the defense to gain an advantage early against him.

Iowa Hawkeyes Current Offensive Line
So far, the Hawkeyes have only generated 1,211 yards of total offense, averaging only 242.2 yards per game through the first five weeks. The team has scored nine touchdowns, seven of those coming on the ground and two of them coming in the air.
Quarterback Spencer Petras has been sacked 13 times in the team’s five games for a total loss of 95 yards. Certainly, these stats do not signify an elite offense by any means. With that said, there is something to be said about the defense, as the team sits currently with a record of 3-2, leading into the weekend matchup at Illinois.
The Hawkeyes currently have a streak of nine straight years in which the team was invited to a bowl game, as well as a streak of four straight seasons ending the year ranked in the Top 25. Each of those streaks is in jeopardy given the Hawkeyes’ offensive struggles so far this year.

Iowa Hawkeyes in the NFL
There are currently 32 active Hawkeyes in the NFL. Of those 32, nine are offensive linemen, which is the biggest group of any one position, followed by linebackers at seven. Many of these players played under the leadership of current Iowa Hawkeyes offensive coordinator, Brian Ferentz.
Ferentz, a former Hawkeye offensive lineman himself, joined the staff as the offensive line coach in 2012, after spending four seasons as part of the New England Patriots coaching staff, from there he would eventually take over as the offensive coordinator in 2017.
It’s no surprise that the Iowa football program has been so successful in producing NFL-caliber offensive linemen historically, seeing the background of the current leader of the Hawkeyes’ offensive attack.

Will Styles Prescod be a Hawkeye?
The University of Iowa has a leg up in the recruiting process, especially when it comes to an offensive linesman. As a program with a reputation for developing offensive linesmen for careers in the NFL, the University of Iowa does have an advantage when it comes to high school offensive linesmen with dreams of playing in the NFL. Styles Prescod is a big, strong, and aggressive offensive tackle with plenty of time to continue to develop before he would even set foot on campus in Iowa City.
Prescod can offer the Hawkeyes a strong counter to the outside pass rush, which is something the Hawkeyes are in need of. Seeing as the Hawkeyes have allowed 13 sacks for a loss of 95 yards through the first five weeks, there is a clear need for improvements when it comes to stopping the pass rush.
With the Hawkeyes’ recent offer to Styles Prescod, a junior offensive tackle out of Fishers, Indiana, it will be very interesting to follow the process for Prescod over the next year.
Prescod has the potential to be a great addition to the Hawkeyes’ offensive line in the future and is very worth keeping tabs on, as he completes his high school career.
